TALK BY FR VIVIAN BOLAND OP. INTERPRETING DESIRE: HEART, MIND AND BODY IN DOMINICAN WAYS OF PRAYING

Among the memories of St Dominic handed down in the tradition of the Order are his nine ways of prayer: physical actions and postures which focus and express attitudes of prayer. This ties in with the emphasis Dominicans have traditionally placed, in contrast to the Cathar heretics they were founded to combat, on the goodness of material creation and its place in God’s plan.

Fr Vivian, who lived at St Dominic’s for several years and is now Vicar (deputy) of the Master of the Order in Rome as well as a popular retreat-giver, will introduce us to the lessons we can draw for our own spiritual lives from this Dominican tradition as we celebrate the 800th Jubilee of the Dominican Order.
