Radio Maria

We are delighted to broadcast Radio Maria England from a studio at St Dominic’s.

Mission

Fr Toby Lees OP, the Priest Director of Radio Maria, tells us about their Mission:

Radio Maria England exists to let people know of the God who is love; to be a place of encounter with the revelation of God’s love in the person of Jesus Christ; to affirm the dignity of each man and woman made in the image and likeness of God; and to be a place of prayer on the airwaves.

Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Radio Maria seeks to reorient our culture to love of God and neighbour. In an age of distraction and individualism, Radio Maria is a place of contemplation and community. Radio Maria has a particular regard for those marginalised in contemporary society and is an antidote to the epidemic of loneliness that afflicts so many.

Our mission is to bring the light of Christ into every home through prayer, teaching, and Christian music. We offer 24/7 Catholic programming to inspire, inform, and accompany listeners on their faith journey. Tune in to grow closer to God, anytime, anywhere.

Programming

There are many programmes on Radio Maria that have a distinctly Dominican character:

  • Fr Toby Lees‘The Friarside’ on Mondays and Tuesdays at 11.15am, helps us to think more clearly about essential topics for convincingly communicating the faith in today’s world.
  • At 1.15pm Monday – Friday, Fr Toby presents ‘Word for Today’ reflecting on the scriptures of the day and bringing them to life with contemporary examples.
  • Fr Euan Marley’s ‘As I was saying’ is each Thursday at 11.15am, and he takes us deeper into the Scriptures, steadily guiding us through various books of the Bible whilst uncovering their hidden depths.
  • Dominican Sisters of St Joseph deliver the ‘Word in 4D’ each Wednesday at 11.15am, where they break open the following Sunday’s readings using the four pillars of the Catechism, helping us to see how the Scriptures impact every part of our lives.
  • We also join the Sisters of St Joseph each Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the Angelus, Midday Prayer and the Mass at 12pm.
  • Questions of faith’ is each Friday at 11.15am, where listeners can call in with questions of faith or submit them in advance. Fr Toby along with various brothers then discuss these uncertainties providing new insights and sound teaching on matters of faith.
  • Fr Richard Ounsworth’s monthly ‘Credo’ makes use of the best in contemporary exegesis, guiding us to a more comprehensive understanding of Scripture. Currently he is taking us through The Letter to the Hebrews and has previously covered the entire Gospel of St Matthew.
